How does Lawrenceville address the use of AI? View this excerpt from our student handbook (2025-26):

Unless a student has clear and specific permission from their teacher to use AI tools in completing an assignment, using them will be considered a form of academic dishonesty (specifically, a form of contract cheating) that may result in both an academic and disciplinary response. NB: Students should be aware that many applications include embedded AI tools (i.e., google docs, Grammarly). If the tool is suggesting phrases or changing your writing, you must verify with your teacher that the tool is permitted and acknowledge its contribution to the student’s work.

When you enroll as a student, you are entering a community that values trust:

  • Trust that your work and ideas are taken seriously

  • Trust between you and your teacher that your work will be given the attention it deserves when it is evaluated

  • Trust that you can express your ideas without fear that someone else will take credit for them

You're part of an intellectual community:

  • Practice what it means to be a scholar, which includes analyzing and synthesizing ideas from your scholarly community.

  • Citation tracks the evolution of ideas over time and confirms legitimate, verified research.

  • You’re standing on the shoulders of giants: respect those who helped to shape your thinking by giving due credit.
